SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE
Cert 15
93 mins
BBFC advice: Contains strong bloody violence, gore, sex references, nudity, strong language

My heart sank when I read the title of Christopher Landon's latest comedy.
This is the umpteeth zombie film I have seen in 2015 and the fad appears to be gaining strength.
Frankly, I have no idea why. I didn't need an original Dawn Of the Dead and certainly not the glut of copycats.
I'll give Landon something - this take is more original than most.
It surrounds the notion that a zombie virus is sweeping a town and the unlikely saviours are a trio of scouts (Tye Sheridan, Logan Miller and Joey Morgan).
They are taught the art of cool by a lass (Sarah Dumont) who is frighteningly handy with weapons.
And they have to go it alone when their leader (David Koechner) becomes one of the undead.
The comedy is derived from the bloody manner in which they see off the stiff-limbed crazies, a few sex gags and the perceived geekiness of being a scout.
These are 93 minutes in which the brain does not need to be engaged.
And, frankly, I don't have much more to add.
As zombie movies go, it is among the better ones which is why I have marked it at 5/10.
But if I never saw one again it would be too soon.

Director Christopher Landon: "When I read the first script, I was like, "Wow, I can actually make a gory R-rated version of The Goonies and Gremlins or even Monster Squad," and so that was the big appeal forhttp://dailydead.com/interview-co-writerdirector-christopher-landon-talks-scouts-guide-to-the-zombie-apocalypse/
