TERA MAIN HERO
Cert 12A
128 mins
BBFC advice: Contains moderate violence and obscured strong language
In real life, are Indian students as old as they appear to be in Bollywood?
I ask because scores of films are set on campuses and every time the actors and their characters seem to be at least in their mid-20s.
This is an old bug bear of mine but only one of the many issues I had with David Dhawan's alleged comedy.
In the plus column, Tera Main Hero has some fast-paced and superbly choreography dance routines.
Pretty much everything else about this movie should be placed in the minus column.
For a start, its premise: a cocksure high school failure (director's son, Varun Dhawan), melts the heart of a university beauty (Ileana D'Cruz).
I'll park the issue of him gaining a place at uni even though he failed his college exams and move on to the fact that her love is already promised, under duress to the local police officer/thug (Arunoday Singh).
For reasons I could not fathom, the bad guy allows the good guy a few days to see if he can get the beauty to fall in love with him.
I found this as perplexing as why the action suddenly moved to Bangkok and the home of the most unconvincing gangster in the history of movies in the shape of Anupam Kher, complete with a ridiculous hairpiece.
Anyway, what I did manage to follow was the farce surrounding the battle for the heart of D'Cruz's character between suitors who are so arrogant that only a blind and deaf woman could fall for either of them.
It all added up to more than two hours which I am never going to get back.
Laughs: a couple of giggles
Jumps: none
Vomit: none
Nudity: none
Overall rating: 4/10
