BBFC advice: Contains strong bloody violence and strong nudity
About six or seven times a year, I am completely defeated by a movie.
By this I mean that I can't make any sense of the storyline or what the director is trying to achieve.
I have never been on a drug-induced trip but I'd imagine that the result might be akin to The Strange Colour Of Your Body's Tears.
I am a little surprised, however, that it came from not just one twisted mind but two - those of Helene Cattet and Bruno Forzani who wrote and directed this cinematic shambles.
In saying that, Amer, the last feature on which they collaborated was a splendidly eerie thriller but here their boundary-pushing has, in my opinion, gone too far.
I suppose the giveaway that this film is going to be odd can be seen in its title. Usually it is meant to sell a film. This one just left me scratching my head.
Mind, you that was only the beginning of the bewilderment.
What I can report about The Strange Colour Of Your Body's Tears is that it involves the disappearance of a wife of a French businessman (Klaus Tange).
I can also say that he starts out being desperate to find her and tries to enlist the help of some very queer folk in his quest.
Thereafter, his focus drifts towards other women in his life.
However, that is a huge simplification. The fact is that it is impossible to divide what is meant to be reality from what appears to be a bizarre and often violent dream sequence.
I could not possibly try to guess what was going through the film-makers' minds but they seem to have an obsession with needles, slicing skin and breasts.
Beyond that I couldn't work out what the Dickens was going on.
