SMART ASS (LA CREME DE LA CREME)
Cert 18
88 mins
BBFC advice: Strong sex and nudity
Errr... college kids running their own prostitution racket seems a bit of a strange premise for a comedy, doesn't it?
Worse still, Kim Chapiron's movie seems to suggest that the rich exploiting the working class for sex is praiseworthy.
I had a feeling of uneasiness throughout Smart Ass because of its rather skewed morals.
Basically, it surrounds a pretty young outcast (Alice Isaaz) who hits upon the idea of persuading experienced-looking local girls to sell themselves to students who are too geeky to succeed in bed.
She enlists the help of a nerd (Thomas Blumenthal) and they are joined by one of the popular kids (Jean-Baptiste Lafarge) who sees the opportunity to make even more money than he already has.
Thus, the good times begin and the trio become the celebrities of the campus.
There is a little pathos when the characters of Isaaz and Blumenthal begin to question the ethics of stranger sex but that is quickly brushed under the carpet and the potential financial gains shroud their conscience.
Smart Ass is little more than pretty young people having sex and taking drugs.
Perhaps I am 30 years too old to have enjoyed it or perhaps I correctly thought it had drifted into being exploitative.
Laughs: none
Jumps: none
Vomit: none
Nudity: yes
Overall rating: 3/10
