Thunderbirds Are Go! is where it all started.
Of the thousands of movies I have seen, it was the very first when I was about three years old.
Actually, I can't be that sure that it wasn't Thunderbird Six because my memories of that time are, understandably, a little sketchy.
Either way, I am sure I was in heaven because I was a huge fan of International Rescue to the point that my early birthday cakes were made in the shape of the thunderbirds, I wore the Tracy brothers' uniform and the show's wallpaper hung in my bedroom.
Apparently, the two movies were flops but who cares? The series was magnificent and it was to my utter delight that I passed my adoration on to my son when it was re-released in the early 1990s.
Unsurprisingly, therefore, I was in my element watching Filmed In Supermarionation, a documentary about the film company developed by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and their dedicated team.
Stephen La Riviere's movie goes back to the 1950s when the company first worked with puppets on a series called The Adventures of Twizzle.
I am pretty well informed about their career but I didn't know about that or a western adventure called Four Feather Falls in which the sheriff was voiced, in an American accent, by Nicholas Parsons.
Fame really struck with Supercar, Fireball XL5 and then the really big guns: Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Joe 90.
Filmed in Supermarionation includes an archive interview with Gerry Anderson as well as words from Sylvia and staff members who worked with them on making such successful children's programmes.
Their return to former studios prompts some wonderful anecdotes and they demonstrate the art of the puppeteers and the special effects wizards.
I am typical of Filmed In Supermarionation's target audience and so I would say to other fans: don't miss it.
FILMED IN SUPERMARIONATION has a special Supermarionation Weekender at Picturehouse Cinemas 11 & 12 October and is available on DVD, Blu-rayand Limited Edition Box Set 20 October.
