BBFC advice: Contains strong sex and drug use

I have said it many times on this blog but the cinema to which I have most empathy is Derby Quad.
Quad opened during my time at the Derby Telegraph and I have seen it grow over the past few years with admiration.
On Tuesday evening I was at the leaving do of its chief executive Keith Jeffrey who has encouraged much of the art centre's vigour.
And, after his event, it was apt that I should walk the few yards to Quad's cinema 2 for the biopic of a man who was renown for pushing artistic boundaries, Yves Saint Laurent.
Jalil Lespert's film shows how fame came quickly to the fashion designer, who was signed by Christian Dior in his early 20s.
But the consequence of this was that he troublesome teens and early 20s were transplanted into his later life.
Pierre Niney plays the title role and Guillaume Gallienne, portrays Saint Laurent's lover and manager who has to deal with his erratic behaviour both socially and professionally.
Yves Saint Laurent is a passable biopic but rarely grabs as much as I had hoped that it might.
Nevertheless, it has a rather splendid Parisienne style and the peformances of both Niney and Gallienne are convincing.
Laughs: none

Vomit: yes
Nudity: Blink and you'd miss it
